Professorship in Religion, Business Ethics, and the Economic Order

Harvard Divinity School (HDS) invites applications and nominations to fill an open-rank professorship in Religion, Business Ethics, and the Economic Order. This professorship aims to promote the study of the mutual influences of religion, business, and economics, attentive to ways that religion shapes, guides, and challenges practices of production, exchange, and distribution. We welcome applications from scholars who approach these questions historically, sociologically, environmentally, ethically, and/or conceptually, with attention to any of the geographical areas, cultures, and religious traditions of the world.

Excellence in teaching and research is required. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to HDS curricula, including the multi-religious Master of Divinity, the Master of Theological Studies, and the Master of Religion and Public Life, as well as the Doctor of Philosophy program jointly offered by HDS with the Committee on the Study of Religion in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

We also expect willingness to collaborate with colleagues in other Schools at Harvard, particularly Harvard Business School. Familiarity with forms of analysis that address inequality, race, gender, class, and social location is presumed. HDS is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions or any other characteristic protected by law.

Basic Qualifications - Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research is expected. The doctoral degree must be held by June 30, 2026.

Additional Qualifications

The search is open rank, welcoming both tenured and tenure-track applications. Applications should be made online at: academic positions.harvard.edu. Required application documents include the CV, Cover Letter, and a Writing Sample. Candidates should also provide the names and email addresses of three professional references who are prepared to submit letters of recommendations. The School may contact those persons directly at a later stage in the search.

The application portal will close on July 1, 2026. Given the nature of the position, we seek a broad range of candidates. Nominations are also welcome and should be sent to the Religion and Business Ethics Search email: _business_ethicsvard.edu.
