Tenure-Track or Tenured Professor in Ukrainian Studies

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures plans to appoint a tenure-track or tenured professor in Ukrainian philology and culture. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including first-year seminars, survey courses, and advanced seminars. We are seeking an energetic colleague committed to supporting and building our program in Ukrainian studies, introducing undergraduates to the study of this part of the world, advising advanced work with graduate students, and connecting Ukrainian studies to other disciplines and regions in creative ways.

We expect the candidate to share fully in the Department's administrative and advising duties as well as participating broadly in the academic culture of the university. Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and innovative scholarship is imperative. We understand philology in a broad sense of the term, as an overlap between the study of language and culture. The ideal candidate will be able to present Ukraine's complex, multiethnic culture and history to both undergraduates and graduate students.

Knowledge of a related field or of another Slavic language and culture is highly desirable. We also welcome broader interdisciplinary skills that bring together fields such as linguistics, cultural studies, literary studies, medieval studies, Jewish studies, history, anthropology, music, film, theater, and the visual arts.

Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. required by the time the appointment begins. Native or near-native Ukrainian and fluency in English are required.

Additional Qualifications
- Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching is required.

Salary Range
- Tenure-track salary range = $100,000-$130,000. Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field. Tenured salary range = $170,000-$310,000. Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as experience, training or qualifications, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field.
