About The Position
Shady Hill School is seeking an experienced and skilled math tutor to work with students in Middle School (grades 5
- 8) on a contracted, hourly basis. We are looking for educators who bring a student-centered, developmentally responsive approach to math instruction and can tailor support to individual learning needs. This is an hourly, part-time position with flexible hours, including traditional school hours and after school hours. This position is not eligible for benefits.

- Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions with students
- Plan tutoring sessions to meet identified learning objectives based on assessment results and discussions with the student’s math teacher and parents
- Document tutoring session objectives, accomplishments, and future goals
- Collaborate with Learning Resources team and math teacher to identify, track, and remediate learning weaknesses
- Provide updates on students’ progress and continued areas of focus with parents and teachers as necessary
- 3-5 years of prior experience teaching or tutoring middle school mathematics
- Familiarity with student-centered math interventions and progress monitoring
- Ability to ground instruction in student reasoning and sense-making
- Experience using a multisensory approach to teach math concepts
- Skilled at providing targeted practice and incorporating real-world contexts
- Demonstrated success differentiating instruction across a range of learning profiles and grade levels
- Ability to build on student strategies while guiding them toward efficient problem-solving approaches
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- A demonstrated understanding of diversity and cultural competency through prior work with diverse populations
- Able to build trusting relationships with students, families and teachers
- Maintains a learner’s mindset and a problem-solving approach to new challenges
Tutors are paid on a per-session basis. The pay is $89 for a 40 minute session; $105 for a 50 minute session; and $125 for a 60 minute session.
