The Opportunity:

Darby Vassall Lane Upper School seeks a passionate and creative educator to join our team as a 6th Grade Social Studies. As a Grade 6 Social Studies Teacher, you will commit to providing a diverse group of student learners with superior instruction, using the district curriculum and common assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with all team members, including but not limited to special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel
• Support students in using technological tools, including Chromebooks, and Google Docs.
• Incorporate a variety of assessment strategies, including district-wide exams and formative assessment, in order to inform instruction and target intervention and enrichment needs
• Integrating social learning into the classroom will work to foster a safe, caring, and active learning community
• Partner with families and include them in the students’ learning and development, as well as encourage families to further the mission of the school
• Build on established partnerships with surrounding community institutions and organizations

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Teacher, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required;
  Master’s degree preferred.
• Massachusetts teacher certification/licensure in History/Social Studies 5-8 required.
• Recent successful experience teaching middle school in a student-centered classroom with inquiry-based methodologies in an urban, multicultural setting.
• A love for children and a desire to work with upper school students.
