CNA Reading Teacher Position

The CNA Reading Teacher position is a part-time role responsible for developing contextualized curriculum and teaching reading to English Language Learners (ELLs) seeking a career in the healthcare industry and enrolled in the CNA Training Program. This role requires a strong ability to support language development, with a particular emphasis on explicitly teaching and reinforcing key academic and healthcare-related vocabulary. The ideal candidate is a teacher who has a good understanding of the challenges adult learners face, a willingness to promote and advance the CLC's mission and core values, and a commitment to racial equity.

We are looking for a reading teacher who will:

• Dynamically teach contextualized reading to adult learners in person
• Provide scaffolded, explicit instruction, practice, and assessment in reading to help students achieve career and personal goals
• Develop/revise curriculum contextualized to the field of healthcare and based on the CLC curriculum
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials
• Communicate with the CNA Training Coordinator/Education Advisor on student issues
• Keep records of student attendance
• Work as a team with teachers and staff of the CNA Training programs to share best practices
• Collaborate with CNA Training Program staff to share best practices, particularly around content instruction and vocabulary
• Engage in ongoing professional development to continually improve our services
• Additional duties assigned as needed

Minimum requirements include:

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
• Experience working with or teaching English Language Learners (ELLs)
• Familiarity with postsecondary education, training programs and community resources
• Knowledge of methods and materials used in adult basic education
• Three years of experience teaching adults
• Sensitivity to the needs of the adult learner population
• Strong organizational and technology skills

Preferred qualifications may include:

• Experience developing and teaching contextualized curricula
• Familiarity with the field of healthcare
• Master's degree
• Experience with remote instruction, digital literacy, and distance learning
• A passion for collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous learning
• Experience teaching adults in a community-based setting

Physical requirements, working conditions, work flexibility, and accommodations include:

• The job requires regular daytime work
• General office and classroom environment with air conditioning and fluorescent lighting; work to be performed onsite.
• There is extensive computer use. Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to lift and carry up to 5 pounds of books and papers.
