Job Description

Job Summary

The Senior Advisor for Knowledge Mobilization and Brokering will establish and help define a new institutional function at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Working across the School, its centers, and faculty, the Senior Advisor will develop strategies and editorial approaches that translate HGSE's research and expertise into accessible, compelling, and influential content for educators, policymakers, journalists/media partners, practitioners, alumni, donors, and the broader public.

The Senior Advisor will partner with faculty, academic leaders, research centers, and the Office of Communications to increase the visibility, accessibility, and real-world impact of HGSE's scholarship.

Job-Specific Responsibilities
  • Establish HGSE's knowledge mobilization strategy, connecting research and scholarship to broader public audiences.

  • Partner with faculty and research centers to identify timely ideas and emerging research with broad relevance.

  • Translate complex scholarship into compelling, accessible stories and thought leadership.

  • Coach faculty in communicating with journalists and public audiences.

  • Cultivate relationships with education journalists and identify opportunities to amplify faculty expertise.

  • Develop repeatable processes that support public scholarship across the institution.

  • Identify and build opportunities for roundtable discussions with journalists and faculty.

Institutional Partnership (25%)
  • Partner closely with the Office of Communications to align knowledge mobilization efforts with institutional priorities

  • Collaborate across schools, centers, and initiatives to surface impactful stories and scholarship.

  • The role will also provide partner with Ed. Magazine and to amplify our work using this channel.

  • Advise leadership on opportunities to strengthen HGSE's voice and influence in national conversations about education.

Basic Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required
    , preferably in education, public policy, journalism, communications, social science, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in journalism, communications, media, public scholarship, or a related field.
  • Significant experience translating complex research, policy, or academic ideas into clear, compelling content for broad and diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience working with journalists, researchers, faculty, subject‑matter experts, or other thought leaders to develop stories and communicate ideas effectively.
  • Strong editorial judgment and substantial writing, editing, and storytelling experience, including the ability to identify ideas with relevance to public and policy conversations.
