Independently assess the needs of the student body, develop and organize educational, social and cultural activities.

Within the Division of Continuing Education (DCE), the Crimson Summer Academy (CSA) works with talented, low-income students from approximately 40 area high schools to help them achieve admission into highly rated colleges and universities and succeed there. The Assistant Director of the CSA manages the student admission process, which includes outreach to the high schools, follow-up and tracking applications, reminders, and preparing files for the Admissions Committee.

• Recruiting, Training, and Managing Mentors:
  Collaboratively works with Director and Associate Director to make decisions to recruit, hire, manage and approve time of 25 undergraduate and recent college graduates who work all year long as mentors and RAs. Trains and manages mentors for the summer and academic year. Acts as a liaison between mentors and Crimson Scholars to foster productive relationships between faculty, mentors, and students.
• Policy Management:
  Collaboratively works with Director and Associate Director to develop, create, and implement policies and practices related to the mentors’ and RAs’ interactions with faculty and high school students that comply with all University policies.
• Career Exploration Fieldwork Instruction:
  Creates course materials and content and teaches in the summer session that helps students explore potential careers to pursue after graduation. As a faculty member, attends faculty meetings, and votes on academic policies and decisions that impact summer academic program.
• Supervision of College Visits:
  Supervises and attends pres elected college visits in the spring and fall term with high school students, including annual week-long April vacation break trip.
• Conflict Resolution:
  Reinforces polices and ensures issues are handled and resolved appropriately with input of the Director. This process can include a variety of interventions, including conflict resolution, corrective, action, up to and through termination.
• Communication Management:
  Organizes and manages mentor-student communication and follows up during the academic year.
• Alumni Engagement:
  Collaborates with CSA staff to develop programming with programs’ alumni. Collaborates with Director and Associate Director on special events involving alumni and/or current students.
