Overview
Hyper Light is looking for an Integrated Photonics Summer PhD Intern. This role focuses on the measurement and testing of photonic products at chip, module, and system levels. It involves improving test capabilities, building new test functionalities and setups, and contributing to next‑generation products.

- Perform optical and electrical testing of integrated photonic devices and systems
- Improve test capabilities by building new test functionalities and setups
- Assist in optimizing test protocols to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Drive R&D to improve product performance (optical, RF, electro‑optical)
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to validate device performance and identify areas for improvement
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including design and fabrication, to address performance challenges
- Current Ph.D. or Master’s student in a photonics related field (Physics, Optics, Engineering, etc.)
- Strong understanding of integrated photonics, silicon photonics, or related technologies
- Experience with electro‑optical modulators is a plus
- Familiarity with fiber alignment systems and free‑space optics setups is a plus
- Proficiency in data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools
- Experience with photonic device simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, COMSOL) is a plus
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work under time constraints
- Ability to solve problems in new and/or ambiguous scenarios
- 12‑week or longer full‑time internship during summer/fall (year‑round internship also available)
- In‑person location in Cambridge, MA
- Pay range of $25‑$35 per hour
