Job Description & How to Apply Below

Hyper Light is at the forefront of the commercialization of thin‑film lithium niobate (TFLN) integrated photonics—a material and process technology that is enabling high‑performance, scalable optical components across AI/datacom infrastructure, hyperscale computing, quantum computing, sensing, and beyond. Founded in 2018 and backed by leading venture capital, we have built a team and a platform focused on real‑world mass deployment of TFLN photonics technology.

At the core of our work is the TFLN Chiplet™ platform—a modular, integrated architecture designed for scalability, manufacturability, and seamless integration into complex systems. It offers a rare combination of extraordinary performance and industrial readiness, enabling system developers across applications to deploy the technology fast and ready. We partner with our customers and suppliers from conceptualization, design, and prototyping phases, all the way through mass production to ensure smooth and rapid deployment of TFLN photonic technology.

We believe our platform is the key, in the golden age of integrated photonics, to empower humanity to the next level. We have assembled a world‑class team covering engineering, business, and operations. We believe in the power of integrity, innovation, collaboration, and pragmatic solutions. Our diverse team thrives on challenges and is united by a shared commitment to excellence. We take pride in tackling complex challenges with curiosity, humility, and a deep sense of care for one another.

At Hyper Light, our people are our greatest asset, and we manifest that by empowering our team in our interactions and business decisions. Our Packaged Modulator Business Unit is looking for an Integrated Photonic Product Engineer
. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the new product development of our integrated photonics platform. As Product Engineer, you will be responsible for developing next‑gen high‑speed, high‑performance TFLN products, driving R&D to improve product performance, working with customers and vendors to define the product and bring it to reality, and leading customer engagement and interactions.

Join us to make a real‑world impact in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and high‑growth environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the end‑to‑end, full‑cycle new product development on the TFLN platform, delivering packaged photonic TFLN modulators from concept through production.
  • Define and develop product/design requirements and drive the R&D to improve optical, RF, and electro‑optical performance of the products.
  • Work effectively with cross‑functional teams—design, fab, test—to evaluate design‑manufacturing tradeoffs and ensure manufacturability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contract manufacturers to evaluate advanced fiber components, high‑speed RF components, and advanced packaging services.
  • Lead build, validation, and production test to ensure products meet or exceed specifications for performance and reliability.
  • Lead customer engagement by providing technical support and understanding customer technical needs.
Requirements
  • Master's or Ph.D.'s degree in a photonics‑related field such as physics, optics, or engineering.
  • Experience with integrated photonics and radio frequency design and testing.
  • Experience with high‑speed electro‑optical modulators.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.
  • Desire to deliver innovative products to market.
  • Ability to solve problems in new and/or ambiguous scenarios.
Benefits
  • Competitive market‑based compensation (range of $90,000–$180,000 per year).
  • Comprehensive health coverage, including medical, vision, and dental plans for individuals and families.
  • 401(k) retirement plans with employee matching.
