Job Summary
GOSOX PROJECT MANAGER at the Kavli Institute, responsible for technical oversight, personnel and resource management, and systems engineering for the GOSoX NASA astrophysics Pioneer satellite program. Responsibilities include overseeing the technical development, project planning, and systems engineering tasks required to carry out a successful Mission Design Review and Systems Requirements Review, and generating a Concept Study Report for NASA sponsors. The program involves design of X-ray focusing mirrors, X-ray dispersion gratings, multilayer polarizing mirrors, and sCMOS detectors, and is scheduled to launch in early 2030 with a 1‑5 year mission life.
Responsibilities- Provide technical oversight of satellite design, development, and operations.
- Manage personnel and resources, including team leadership.
- Perform systems engineering duties: requirements definition and flow‑down, risk management, and trade space exploration.
- Lead project planning and management, including preparing for Mission Design Review, Systems Requirements Review, and Concept Study Report for NASA sponsors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Astrophysics, or a related field.
- At least five years of experience in satellite design, development, operations, or similar applications.
- At least two years of experience in requirements development and Systems Engineering.
- Established experience in managing teams and complex engineering efforts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- U.S. Person with a valid passport.
- Familiarity with NASA project management practices and reporting requirements, especially for Class D missions.
- Five or more years of engineering management experience.
- Experience with astrophysics instrumentation.
- Experience in research, academic, or a similar work environment.
