Your Impact at LILA

Lila is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer I or II to contribute to the design and deployment of electrical systems in our automated scientific equipment. This role involves applying core engineering principles to support electrical systems design, rapid prototyping, and cross-system integration, while collaborating within multi-functional teams to advance laboratory automation. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career engineer who is eager to grow, thrives in a fast-paced R&D environment, and wants to see their work directly accelerate the future of autonomous science.

What You'll Be Building
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of electrical solutions using CAD tools and design software to produce wiring schematics and support system optimization.
  • Assist in designing and building prototypes, applying agile methodologies to test and iterate on electrical systems and components for novel scientific instruments.
  • Work alongside senior engineers and scientists to help convert manual benchtop workflows into automated solutions in an R&D setting.
  • Support the development of process instrumentation, sensors, and field-level control devices to ensure precision and reliability in system performance.
  • Create, update, and maintain engineering documentation for assigned projects, including wiring schematics, test plans, instrument I/O lists, and results analysis.
  • Perform calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of electrical systems to ensure performance, accuracy, and safety standards are met.
  • Support multi-team automation projects by independently executing assigned technical tasks, meeting milestones, and adhering to engineering best practices.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver engineering solutions, raising risks early and sharing findings proactively.
What You'll Need to Succeed
  • 1-4 years of experience in electrical systems design, integration, or a closely related engineering discipline (co-op and internship experience counts).
  • Foundational knowledge of CAD software and electrical design tools such as Solid Works Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Familiarity with industrial electrical safety standards such as UL508A and IEC 60204-1.
  • Basic understanding of integration technologies including embedded controllers, PLCs, HMIs, and relevant controls principals.
  • Solid troubleshooting fundamentals with hands-on experience using electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Effective communication and collaborative skills for working within project teams and with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and willingness to raise risks early.
Bonus Points For
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience or coursework in a scientific, R&D, or life science environment with exposure to laboratory automation.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, BMS, or EMS platforms in a lab or industrial setting.
  • Exposure to Industry 4.0 concepts and IoT integration for smart laboratory solutions.
  • Basic understanding of industrial networking concepts (IP addressing, OT/IT network separation).
  • Experience reading and interpreting P& and control narratives.
