TECHNICIAN C ELECTRO-MECHANICAL

If instructed to perform skilled or semi‑skilled work supporting the integration and repair of electro‑mechanical systems and equipment at Haystack Observatory. Tasks include assisting operations, assembling, repairing, and maintaining antenna mechanical systems, radio and radar receivers, control systems, computers, data networks, and high‑power microwave transmitters. Conduct maintenance and installation activities involving antenna systems, requiring mechanical work at height and tower climbing.

Training in industrial tower climbing, electrical, RF, and high voltage safety will be provided.

• Familiarity with machine shop equipment, tools, and methods (e.g., drill press, sanders, machine tools) in a mechanical systems context.
• General mechanical systems knowledge and electro‑mechanical assembly skills using hand and power tools.
• Willingness to develop skills with modern tools such as 3D printing and laser cutting systems.
• Willingness to learn and use computer systems in a variety of configurations (Windows, Linux, embedded computers).
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb towers.
• Physically capable of tower climbing and required for the position.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Willingness to support instrument operations on overtime shifts, occasional travel to field sites, and possibly cover different shifts or work off‑hours or holidays.
