Lead Distribution Engineer – Framingham, MA
Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. You will work directly with clients to maintain Leidos’ reputation for high‑quality work and gain expertise in areas such as NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.
Position is hybrid: 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week remote.
Responsibilities- Lead development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic, capital, and reliability designs (e.g., Make‑Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductors, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc.).
- Perform QA/CQ tasks for assigned team and review designs prior to client submittals.
- Review engineering design packages with clients and organize existing program work.
- Analyze scope of work, maintain schedule adherence, and advocate client priorities.
- Interact directly with clients frequently as needed.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards.
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
- Work in both field and office settings; may require customer‑site visits to collect field data.
- Participate in the hiring process for the future of your team.
- 8+ years of relevant experience on electric distribution projects in a consulting environment or direct utility work.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a specific degree.
- Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Experience with engineering design quality control.
- Familiarity with pole loading software such as O‑Calc or Pole Foreman and distribution pole analysis.
- Ability to use a personal vehicle; some customer‑related travel may be anticipated and will be reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates.
- Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments occasionally.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Previous QA/CQ experience.
- Experience providing estimated costs, developing a BOM, and calculating CIAC.
- Demonstrated history of customer interaction.
- Proficiency with STORMS software and GIS preferred.
- Prior leadership experience preferred.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, supporting customer advocacy.
- Collaborative and inclusive of diverse backgrounds and geographic locations.
