Our Hardware Engineering team designs, qualifies, and scales the server platforms that power Akamai Cloud. We partner closely with OEM/ODM manufacturers to deliver reliable, efficient, and secure platforms from concept through global deployment.

You’ll be responsible for creating, designing and realizing the next‑generation servers for Akamai’s CDN and Cloud Compute platforms. In this role, you’ll test and validate hardware server components and systems to ensure they meet our performance and quality standards.
As a Hardware Engineer II, you will be responsible for:
- Testing next-generation server hardware platforms and components for performance, power and reliability.
- Documenting and reporting results, identifying defects and recommending improvements.
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware issues in both engineering and manufacturing environments in collaboration with internal and external teams.
- Developing, maintaining, and enhancing test scripts to validate existing and upcoming hardware features.
- Keeping up to date with new computing, networking, storage and hardware acceleration technology standards.
Do what you love
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrate an understanding of computer architecture, server hardware components, firmware and operating systems.
- Have experience with Linux environments and scripting, ideally with Bash or Python.
- Have hands‑on experience with embedded systems and debugging with lab tools.
- Have experience with standards, protocols and related technologies such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, PCIe, NVMe, DDR and GPU architectures.
- Have problem‑solving, documentation, and communication skills.
This role will require your presence in our Cambridge office 5 days a week. Applicants should be aware that this office attendance will be required.

CompensationAkamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only – the base salary for this position ranges from $95,000 - $171,000/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
