Job DescriptionThe Senior Mechanical Engineer, Plastics and Polymers role at Deep Mind focuses on developing durable surfaces for robotic payloads and end-effector modules. The engineer will work closely with structural, electrical, and robotics engineers to create surfaces that can withstand rigorous mechanical loads. This position requires hands-on experience with material properties, design, and manufacturing processes. The role emphasizes collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to ensure scalable designs and effective validation testing.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience creating both rigid and compliant plastics and polymer based parts.
- Experience in manufacturing processes, including single/multi-shot injection molding, overmolding, insert molding, resin selection, and tooling design constraints.
- Experience analyzing and solving wear, fatigue, and degradation tests across joints or high-cycle mechanical interfaces.
- Experience with polymer fabrication techniques such as 3D printing and silicone casting.
- Undergraduate with 5+ Years of Experience
- Work with sensing engineers to embed conformal, flexible sensing modalities within plastic and polymer based matrices.
- Evaluate and select engineering plastics, elastomers, and advanced polymers based on mechanical properties.
- Design and prototype complex plastic enclosures and compliant polymer surfaces for robotic accessories.
- Partner with toolmakers and suppliers to manage tool design reviews and moldflow analysis.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability/Assembly principles to ensure yield and scalable production.
