Job DescriptionJob Summary: Responsible for the identification, evaluation, and protection against key risk exposures at the University, as well as any necessary loss mitigation related to such exposures.
Job-Specific Responsibilities: The Insurance Manager is a key player in the procurement and administration of the university’s casualty insurance and self-insured programs, supporting the department’s consultative approach and regularly interacting with internal clients and partners to assess and address risk. Responsibilities include contract and policy reviews, on-site meetings and assessments, interviews and research; partnering with the claims manager and Office of General Counsel on claims and coverage issues;
recommending solutions for addressing business risk; aggregating data and synthesizing key themes for reporting to the team and director; and managing external service partners to optimize performance and deliverables.
Typical Duties:
- Evaluate the current suite of risk financing solutions and underlying framework to ensure alignment with exposures and risk appetite.
- Maintain fluency in the state of the insurance market and evolving risk issues and their impact on the University.
- Maintain fluency in the legal, regulatory, and governance environments impacting higher education.
- Provide reports to guide leadership on policy renewal strategies, design specifications, implementation timelines, and financial analyses.
- Manage external service partners to ensure timely, quality deliverables within financial targets.
- Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders to maximize performance.
- Periodically measure and report on expected deliverables against performance metrics as part of oversight duties.
- Analyze exposure data and historical loss information to assess trends and identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide timely guidance to internal clients on on-demand insurance inquiries in consultation with the team and the Director.
- Contribute to the department’s annual budget projections and interim financial reports.
- Participate in claims management with internal and external partners.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications:
Certificates and Licenses:
- Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred

- Onsite work is performed in an office setting.
Standard Hours/
Schedule:
35 hours per week
- 1-2 days onsite per week on average with additional days for ad-hoc meetings.
- Worksite locations include Cambridge, Allston, Boston (Longwood Medical), and partner locations.
