Vice President of Finance

Oversee all aspects of accounting, financial operations, and compliance while contributing meaningfully to corporate strategy and long‑term planning. This is a key leadership role and is the primary steward of the company’s financial strategy, discipline, systems, and governance.
Responsibilities- Oversee and manage all accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls; ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations, manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and tax and regulatory filings; initiate/lead financial statement audits
- Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop and refine the company’s financial strategy and long‑term operating plan; provide scenario modeling within budgets, forecasts, and long‑range planning models, and deliver capital allocation recommendations; support fundraising, investor relations, and board‑level financial reporting
- Implement and maintain innovative and scalable accounting and financial systems, processes and tools; oversee cash flow management, including tracking of R&D expenses, collaboration budgets and operational spend, and lead implementation of accounting and finance systems independent from the Flagship ecosystem
- Manage external vendors—auditors, accounting consultants, tax advisors, and payroll providers—holding them to scope, budget, and timeline
- Deploy AI accelerators across finance operations to improve speed, accuracy, and analytical capacity
- 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including senior leadership roles
- Proven track record in a private life sciences/biotech company through growth and successful inflection points
- Strong understanding of GAAP and biotech‑specific accounting issues, including R&D accruals, intercompany transactions, and collaboration accounting
- Experience in leading financial reporting, budgeting and long‑range planning processes
- Experience and comfort as an individual contributor as well as leading small teams, including external vendors
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment
- CPA or MBA strongly preferred
- Experience supporting fundraising activities (venture capital, crossover, IPO readiness)
- Understanding of and interest in utilizing AI and automation for finance
- Familiarity with biopharma collaboration accounting and reporting as well as cost modeling for R&D programs
Expedition Medicines currently offers healthcare coverage, an annual incentive program, retirement benefits, and a broad range of other benefits.
Salary range: $275,000 - $330,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
