Position: Mgmt 3, Budget & Financial Analysis

Responsibilities

SENIOR BUDGET AND FINANCE OFFICER
, MIT Museum, reports to the Deputy Director and is responsible for financial planning, reporting, financial operations, risk management, and compliance with MIT financial policies and procedures. Will support the Director & Deputy Director on financial matters and objectives outlined in MITM's Strategic Plan and work closely with the senior team; partner with the Development Officer and MIT's central Finance office and has a staff of two;

serve as the primary liaison to MIT's central finance office (VpF) on budgetary, reporting, contractual, and accounting matters; develop, monitor, and report on MITM's $13 million combined annual budget, which includes earned revenue, endowment income, fundraising, contracts, grants, and support from MIT; and regularly briefs the Director and Deputy Director on progress vis a vis the annual budget. Will develop operational plans to improve MITM sustainability by optimizing profitability of earned revenue & fundraising strategies and recommending resource reallocation and/or cost‑cutting strategies as needed;

and evaluate budget vs. actual performance and develop and report on key monthly, quarterly, and annual performance metrics through a clear, museum-wide financial 'dashboard' for staff.

Requirements
  • Required:

    Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or related field; and a minimum of seven years of accounting and/financial management experience.
  • Preferred:
    Experience in corporate or non-profit finance that includes revenue generation, financial reporting, grant administration, budgeting and accounting, and experience managing complex business processes at a revenue generating organization or department; or MBA or CPA.
