Job Summary
Band Level 6, Novartis Venture Fund (NVF). Position based in Cambridge, USA. This role supports senior members of the NVF team and focuses on investing in bio‑therapeutics to optimize financial returns by evaluating innovative companies in high‑unmet‑need areas.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Managing Directors and colleagues at all stages of scientific and business due diligence, including scientific due diligence, investment specific diligence, market analysis, financial modelling and primary/secondary research.
- Review and evaluate new business plans, scientific publications and data from potential portfolio companies.
- Source new investment opportunities through analysis of scientific and market opportunities; attend industry conferences and engage with academics, executives, entrepreneurs and other investors.
- Manage deal pipeline, including deal review, tracking, and meetings; prepare and maintain internal documentation such as investment memos and financial analyses.
- Create presentations and build financial models to support new and ongoing investments.
- Participate in portfolio management and fund strategy; coordinate interactions with NVF fund and Novartis AG partners.
- Support senior leadership and mentor junior team members; perform other tasks as needed.
- Ph.D. in Natural Sciences or M.D.
- 5+ years of experience in biotech investing and related fields.
- Strong scientific background with an excellent understanding of the life‑science market, pharma world, medical needs and emerging science & technology trends.
- Familiarity with scientific due diligence processes and exposure to biotech board meetings, management and governance.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective in an international high‑performance environment.
- Ability to prioritize, coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proactive, hands‑on and entrepreneurial with strong strategic orientation and analytical ability.
- Fluent in English (oral and written).
- Experience serving as a board observer or working closely with biotechnology company boards.
- Established network within the biotechnology, venture capital, and life‑sciences innovation ecosystem.
Annual salary range $176,400–327,600
USD. Final salary is determined based on relevant skills and experience. Salary is reviewed periodically. Compensation includes performance‑based cash incentive and eligibility for annual equity awards for eligible US employees.
