The Pharmacy Department at the Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute emphasizes reliability, professionalism, teamwork, communication, positivity and inclusiveness.

Pharmacy Technician II, Infusion provides technical support to pharmacy operations under a licensed pharmacist. The technician will staff pharmacy locations as required.

Responsibilities
  • Practice as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations and standards.
  • Fill medication orders according to policy, gaining proficiency with advanced preparations.
  • Ensure timely delivery of medication orders and supplies.
  • Utilize multiple systems such as EHR, inventory management systems and other systems to complete and document duties; identify issues and report as necessary.
  • Maintain the pharmacy inventory: sorting, stocking, rotation and expiration date checking.
  • Perform and document quality control steps as required for safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Clean sterile and non‑sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned.
  • Train other employees as assigned.
  • Communicate and escalates issues or problems.
  • May be assigned to cross‑cover other locations or areas (e.g., materials management, outpatient, infusion).
  • Perform sterile and non‑sterile compounding of predominantly hazardous drugs in compliance with USP , , and DFCI policies; support research protocols.
  • Maintain and support automated dispensing cabinets and foreign controlled substance retrieval.
  • Stock emergency medication as appropriate.
  • Set up and log pharmacy batch compound products.
  • Provide ADS downtime support (Chestnut Hill, satellites and pediatric).
  • Perform essential pharmacy inventory functions (ordering and receiving).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Utilize pharmacy technology systems.
  • Develop proficiency in aseptic technique and compounding of sterile products.
  • Develop proficiency and mastery of compounding of non‑sterile products.
  • Troubleshoot issues independently and resolve or escalated appropriate resources.
  • Treat all others with utmost professionalism and respect.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team‑focused environment.
  • Participate in department meetings and functions.
  • Communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail.
Minimum Job Qualifications

The position requires a high school diploma or current enrollment in an accredited entry‑level degree program for Pharmacy or a related field. Requires 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, including at least 1 year of compounding experience. Requires Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy registration as a Pharmacy Technician;
National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) must be obtained within 1 year of hire. For roles at Londonderry or Merrimack Valley satellite locations, New Hampshire Board of Pharmacy registration is required.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications. For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Pay range: $60,195.20 – $70,543.20
