Job Description & How to Apply Below

AutonomUS is an MIT/MGH spinout building AI-enabled, ultrasound-guided robotic systems that automate life-saving medical interventions currently limited to expert physicians. Our flagship device combines real-time computer vision, robotics, and edge AI into a compact, elegant, handheld platform. We have been awarded FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, and collaborate closely with MIT Lincoln Laboratory and leading physicians at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced sonographer to join our team and both directly annotate ultrasound images and provide training and oversight of less medically experienced annotators. In this role you will apply your ultrasound expertise to ensure the accuracy and clinical validity of imaging annotations used to train and validate our AI-guided systems. You will serve as the clinical anchor for the annotation team, setting standards, resolving ambiguous cases, and partnering closely with engineering and clinical affairs staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor an onsite team of data annotators performing ultrasound image and video labeling.
  • Define, document, and maintain annotation protocols, labeling conventions, and quality standards rooted in sonographic best practices.
  • Perform expert review and adjudication of annotations, particularly for complex anatomy (e.g., vascular structures, nerve and fascial planes).
  • Conduct quality assurance audits and track inter-annotator agreement to ensure consistent, high-quality datasets.
  • Train new annotators on sonoanatomy, scanning conventions, and image interpretation.
  • Collaborate with engineering and clinical teams to translate clinical requirements into clear annotation guidelines.
  • Provide clinical input on dataset curation, edge cases, and model evaluation.
Qualifications
  • Credentialed sonographer with hands-on clinical ultrasound experience.
  • Strong knowledge of sonoanatomy and image interpretation across relevant body systems.
  • Able to work onsite full-time in Cambridge, MA.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, or supervise a team or junior staff.
  • Detail-oriented with a high standard for data accuracy and consistency.
  • Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Familiarity with data labeling platforms and quality-control workflows is preferred, but not required.
Why AutonomUS?
  • Build technology that literally saves lives.
  • Join a world-class team with ties to MIT and MGH.
  • Work on hard problems with high autonomy in a mission-critical environment.
  • Help redefine how interventional medicine is delivered across the world and improve access to high-quality care in low resource environments.
