About the Role

The Global Associate Medical Director, Evidence Generation and Education is a key member of the Global Medical Rare Disease team, reporting into the Rare Disease Global Medical Lead and supporting the Global Medical Directors, Rare Disease – ALS and SMA. This role helps execute the global evidence generation strategy across Biogen’s SMA and ALS portfolio, including registry-based studies, real-world data initiatives, biomarker and outcomes work, scientific communication, and cross-functional evidence planning.

In addition, the role supports the education needs of Global Medical SMA and ALS teams by translating clinical, real-world, registry, and emerging scientific data into clear, compliant, and actionable training resources, scientific narratives, and medical education materials for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Supports the Medical Director, Rare Disease Evidence Generation – ALS and SMA in executing the global evidence generation strategy across Rare Disease portfolio including registries, real-world data, biomarker analyses, long-term outcomes, and other evidence sources. Contribute to the design, prioritization, and execution of evidence generation initiatives, including registry-based studies, natural history collaborations, real-world data analyses, protocol development, statistical analysis plans, study reports, and data interpretation.

Develops, maintains, and delivers global medical education content and training materials that translate SMA and ALS evidence generation findings into clear, scientifically accurate resources for Global Medical, regional medical, field medical, and cross-functional partners. Collaborates with Clinical Development, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Value and Access, Regulatory, Patient Advocacy, Regional Medical, Commercial, publications, medical communications, and field medical partners to ensure evidence generation and education activities are strategically aligned and globally actionable.

Contributes & assists with drafting, reviewing, and coordinating manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress presentations, advisory board materials, scientific narratives, and internal training resources related to SMA and ALS evidence generation. Supports the development of global medical education curricula and continuing education resources for SMA and ALS, including disease state, product, registry, real-world evidence, biomarker, outcomes, patient identification, treatment optimization, and lifecycle strategy topics.

Partners with the Medical Director Rare Disease Evidence Generation lead and TA Global medical leads to synthesize global medical insights, registry data, external evidence, competitive intelligence, and regional feedback to identify evidence gaps, refine priorities, and address education needs across Global Medical SMA and ALS. Supports relationships with external stakeholders, including registry steering committees, global medical experts, healthcare institutions, academic collaborators, registry partners, and advocacy organizations across the SMA and ALS landscape.

Supports internal governance forums, advisory boards, congresses, scientific meetings, and external expert engagements by preparing materials, coordinating inputs, capturing insights, and helping translate output into evidence and education actions. Assists with operating rhythms for evidence review, prioritization, decision-making, budget tracking, project management, and delivery against measurable evidence-generation and education milestones. Ensures all evidence generation, scientific communication, and medical education activities are conducted in accordance with Biogen’s compliance standards, Good Clinical Practice, relevant regulations, and applicable internal policies.
