The Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD), a recipient of the 2013 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Prize, works to protect and promote the health of everyone in the city, with a special focus on vulnerable populations. Administered by the Cambridge Health Alliance, the CPHD uses a Social Determinants of Health framework to address factors like economic stability, education, and racism that affect community well-being.

Its key areas of focus include communicable disease prevention, environmental health, and emergency preparedness. The department is also responsible for creating and enforcing public health regulations within Cambridge.

The Youth Wellness Coordinator drives health, wellness, and substance use prevention initiatives for middle and high school students across Cambridge. Working under the Manager of Substance Use Prevention Programs, you will collaborate with Cambridge Public Schools, community organizations, and local stakeholders to implement grant strategies grounded in health equity, racial justice, and the social determinants of health

• Grant Implementation & Administration:
  Lead the overall execution of the Mass Call 3 grant, including strategy coordination, event planning, record-keeping, and monthly/quarterly reporting to BSAS grant managers. Maintain, update, and evaluate program strategic plans and logic models using local health data.
• Community & School
  
  Collaboration:
  
  Partner with Cambridge Public Schools and youth-serving organizations to serve as a resource, build community partnerships, and create engagement opportunities for youth.
• Education & Facilitation:
  Conduct 21 Proof trainings (in-person or virtual), lead departmental/community workshops, and develop educational materials for general distribution and social media platforms.
• Mentorship & Outreach:
  Serve as a positive role model and mentor to young people while leading cultural and environmental wellness initiatives.
• Departmental Support:
  Assist with budget/spending oversight for program materials, attend funder meetings, and participate in departmental committees and work groups.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, or a related Human Services field (Master’s degree preferred; 2 years of relevant experience can substitute for a Master’s).

Experience:

1–3 years of experience in youth-focused substance abuse prevention, mental wellness, health trainings, or working with high-risk populations.

Certifications:

Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) designation is a plus, or a willingness to obtain certification.

Core Knowledge:
Strong understanding of adolescent brain development, youth mental health and substance use issues, Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) principles, and health equity/antiracism values. Familiarity with Cambridge community resources is helpful.
