Electronics Technician, Hardware Engineer
The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error‑corrected computations. Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.
About the role:
The candidate will work with the Cambridge-based quantum team to set up and maintain state-of-the‑art lab equipment and infrastructure.
This is a lab technician role, focusing on hands‑on hardware and infrastructure support for our experimental quantum computing effort.
Coding language required: Python
Responsibilities- Set up and maintain electronics racks: This includes installing and wiring electrical equipment such as RF signal generators, signal analyzers, etc.
- Assemble and wire cryogenic systems: Assist with the installation of cryogenic components and cable assemblies into cryogenic systems. This also involves wiring up quantum processor setups within the systems.
- Build custom hardware: Design and build custom electronics boxes, mechanical parts, and other small‑scale hardware.
- Maintain lab infrastructure: Perform routine maintenance on critical cryogenic infrastructure, including compressors, pumps, and chilled water systems.
- Lightweight software tasks: Contribute to lightweight software development for the control and maintenance of various pieces of lab equipment.
We're seeking a highly motivated, hands‑on individual with a passion for hardware and infrastructure support in a cutting‑edge research environment.
EducationAssociate degree or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
Hardware Proficiency- Demonstrated experience with the setup, wiring, and maintenance of electronic and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency with common lab tools including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering stations, and hand tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, instrument manuals, and assembly instructions.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems (e.g., pumps, compressors, fluid lines) for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with delicate components and precise assembly procedures.
- Strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem‑solving in a practical, hands‑on setting.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to evolving technical challenges in a fast‑paced R&D environment.
- Experience with cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, or dilution refrigerators.
- Familiarity with RF/microwave components and test equipment.
- Basic programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python).
