The Opportunity:

The CPS Family Engagement Office is seeking a Spanish-speaking, bilingual Family Liaison to work closely with parents on a citywide basis. The ideal candidate will help build a home-school connection for families. The candidate is expected to speak Spanish in addition to English. Preference will be granted to individuals who are able to communicate in multiple languages and demonstrate cultural proficiency and sensitivity to diverse groups.

The Multilingual Family Liaison will report to the Director of Family Engagement and collaborate with the Student Registration Center (SRC), school administrators, other family liaisons, teachers, the Office of Student Services (OSS), and others. Responsibilities may include:

* Assisting with student registration at the Family Resource Center. Duties may include:
Explaining program options for English Language Learners and assisting with testing for English Language Proficiency

* Attending school and district meetings and events to support families

* Assisting with parent council meetings

* Supporting students/families to understand, navigate, and gain access to resources and supports such as medical appointments, food banks, and other community services
· Conducting home visits with parents

* Attending I.E.P. meetings and helping families understand the pre-evaluation and evaluation process

* Providing translation and interpretation in school meetings

The Spanish-speaking bilingual Family Liaison will serve as a conveyor of academic and social information to parents in order to maximize positive relations between CPS and Language Preferred Other than English (LPOE) individuals and communities. The city-wide liaison will perform other related duties as requested by the Director of Family Engagement.

Your Skill Set:

As a Bilingual Family Liaison, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

* High School diploma or higher from an accredited college

* Experience working with parents/community and other organizations

* Must have strong English and Spanish oral and written communication skills

* Fluent in Spanish

* Candidates must have proven ability and experience working with parents and people of all backgrounds, good communication, and leadership skills, and be creative, organized, and flexible.
