External Engagement Sr. Manager, Device Supply

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will lead day-to-day supplier relationship management and execution for external manufacturing partners supporting device supply. The role will be accountable for ensuring reliable supply, technical and operational issue resolution, project execution, budget/proposal governance, and cross-functional alignment across Amgen, supplier sites, quality, supply chain, engineering, procurement, finance, and manufacturing network partners.

This role requires a strong technical and operational leader who can operate independently across complex supplier relationships, manage competing business priorities, and drive timely decision-making on supplier performance, capacity, component readiness, validation, packaging, technical changes, and commercial proposals.

Supplier relationship and operational leadership:

  • Own and manage critical supplier relationships for assigned external partners, acting as the primary External Supply point of contact for operational execution, escalation, and business continuity.
  • Ownership of projects to install capacity and capabilities at External Partner locations to meet Amgen projected demand.
  • Lead structured engagement with suppliers to ensure delivery of supply, project, quality, technical, and commercial commitments.
  • Drive resolution of supplier-related issues affecting device availability.
  • Establish clear priorities with suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring urgent business needs are understood, resourced, and progressed to closure.

External manufacturing and technical execution:

  • Lead cross-functional execution for external manufacturing activities related to device manufacturing and supply.
  • Coordinate with engineering, quality, supply chain, CPO, manufacturing sites, and supplier technical teams to resolve manufacturing and product/process issues.
  • Support technical evaluations, impact assessments, change controls, specification updates, validation strategies, and supplier manufacturing investigations.
  • Ensure supplier decisions are grounded in appropriate technical rationale, GMP expectations, business priorities, and risk management principles.

Project, budget, and proposal management:

  • Manage supplier proposals, purchase requisitions, budget requests, and commercial follow-up for assigned programs and external partners.
  • Prepare and progress business cases for supplier spend, scrap proposals, spare parts, tooling, packaging solutions, and project-related expenditure.
  • Partner with finance, procurement, and leadership to secure approvals, track commitments, and ensure spend is aligned to program priorities.
  • Maintain visibility of open supplier proposals, financial risks, and urgent budget needs, escalating appropriately when business decisions are required.

Supply continuity and capacity planning:

  • Support capacity planning, supply risk assessment, and mitigation planning for external manufacturing operations.
  • Work with suppliers and internal teams to ensure component availability, production readiness, shipment planning, and inventory decisions support business and patient supply needs.
  • Identify risks to supply continuity and lead development of recovery or mitigation plans.
  • Support prioritization of activities across multiple suppliers, products, and business-critical programs.

Cross-functional leadership:

  • Lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority, including supplier teams, quality, engineering, procurement, supply chain, finance, manufacturing sites, and program leadership.
  • Represent External Supply in internal working teams, supplier governance forums, project reviews, and escalation meetings.
  • Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders on status, risks, decisions needed, and recommended actions.
  • Coach and support team members or project contributors where needed, helping build capability in supplier engagement, technical problem solving, and business ownership.

Compliance and quality mindset:

  • Ensure supplier activities are conducted in line with Amgen quality expectations, GMP requirements, procurement processes, and applicable procedures.
  • Support investigations, deviations, impact assessments, specification updates, and change-related activity as needed.
  • Maintain strong documentation, decision rationale, and follow-through on actions.
