Under the supervision of the Regional Director of Supply Chain Operations, the Director of Supply Chain is responsible for the daily operations of all supply chain functions conducted at Beth Israel Lahey Health, Inc. (BILH) and its entities. Responsible for inventory management, vendor relationship management, and managing supply expenses.

The Director of Supply Chain integrates the department's services with the hospital's primary functions, implements policies and procedures that support services, and assesses and improves department performance. Responsible for maintaining a capable supply base in quality, delivery, and cost. Oversees the purchasing clinical evaluations and supply chain management.

Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Develops strategic plans to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations.
  • Develops policies and procedures in inventory control, shipping & receiving, storage, distribution, print shop, mail services, materials processing, and warehousing.
  • Provides leadership and direction for a variety of supply chain initiatives ensuring business goals are achieved.
  • Establishes and maintains long-term customer and departmental relationships by building trust and respect through consistently meeting and exceeding expectations.
  • Works collaboratively with support services departments and Finance on cost savings initiatives.
  • Works closely with the BILH Supply Chain team on system-wide initiatives.
  • Provides leadership and direction to Materials Management employees in areas of: recruitment, staff development, teamwork, performance evaluations, corrective action plans, and terminations.
  • Maintains and approves bi-weekly Timekeeping for the department.
  • Organizes staff and resources to execute initiatives and tactics effectively and efficiently, and monitor and report progress; elevate issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Conducts internal contract reviews and works with BILH Contracting team on local contracts pertaining to the business unit.
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of Supply Chain concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Assures that the hospital is provided with consistent, high-quality, and cost-effective operations with respect to inventory, warehouse operations, shipping, receiving, and supply distribution functions.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops and sustains vendor relationships through meetings and direct interaction, responsiveness, and accountability.
  • Is responsible for maintaining Symplr vendor credentialing system.
  • Leads and/or staffs multi-disciplinary teams to standardize contracting choices lead by the BILH Contracting team that maximize supply chain savings while meeting clinical and operational needs.
  • Conducts and staffs group meetings to facilitate contract review, trials, and implementation.
  • Builds, maintains, and manages strong partnerships with our strategic vendors.
  • Ensures Supply Chain distribution and logistics are efficient and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Communicates plans for all departments and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with BILH Supply Chain policies and procedures and to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Creates and maintains a supportive environment for Supply Chain staff development and the delivery of Supply Chain solutions.
  • Support Supply Chain Formulary enforcement; provide leadership for addressing manufacturer backorders, stock-outs, product substitutions, clinical trials, conversions, and recalls.
