SENIOR TECHNICIAN ELECTRO-MECHANICAL
, Haystack Observatory, will assist with the implementation, operation, deployment, and maintenance of research-grade scientific instrumentation; and participate in all aspects of high sensitivity radio frequency (RF) receiver construction, operations and maintenance.

Primary duties include electronic component and subsystem level assembly and troubleshooting as well as monitoring operations, and performing maintenance of the receiver systems; working on a variety of equipment including high sensitivity receiver components, RF cabling, precision RF waveguide components, low noise amplifiers, high power transmitters, high voltage systems, control systems, and digital systems.

Some of this work will be performed l assist in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific personnel; operate highly technical experimental apparatus; and understand the theoretical aspects of the experiments.

There may be occasions when maintenance and operational responsibilities require working off hours.

• Graduation from a two-year day technical school or its equivalent and a minimum of five years of applicable experience.
• Experience in fabricating/repairing electronic equipment, cabling, and skills in soldering, mechanical fabrication and assembly.
• Basic troubleshooting experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
• Experience in maintaining RF equipment such as that found in radar or communication systems.
• Must pass a tower climbing physical and be willing and able to climb towers.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• The ability to obtain and maintain tower climbing, first aid and hoist operator certification is essential.
