About the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy seeks to improve quality of life through the effective use, taxation, and stewardship of land. A nonprofit private operating foundation whose origins date to 1946, the Lincoln Institute researches and recommends creative approaches to land as a solution to economic, social, and environmental challenges. Through education, training, publications, and events, we integrate theory and practice to inform public policy decisions worldwide.

With locations in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Washington, DC, Phoenix, and Beijing, we organize our work in seven major areas:
Planning and Urban Form, Valuation and Taxation, International and Institute-Wide Initiatives, Latin America and the Caribbean, People’s Republic of China, The Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy, and the Center for Community Investment.

Position Overview

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is looking for a Public Relations Manager to join the Publications, Communications, Learning Design, and User Experience (PCLDUX) team. Our team publishes digital content, reports, books, and other products designed to help policymakers, practitioners, and the public better understand land policy challenges and solutions. As a member of the PCLDUX team, you will manage stakeholder outreach, media relations, and email and event marketing.

You will work together with PCLDUX and Programs staff to ensure the organization is communicating with its key audiences in a consistent, timely, and accurate manner. This position will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and you will be expected to work at least two days a week in the Cambridge office.

What You Will DoMedia Relations
  • Draft and distribute press releases and media pitches using Meltwater
  • Monitor inbound media inquiries and work with Communications Director and other key staff to coordinate timely responses and interviews
  • Coordinate and schedule briefings with members of the media and Lincoln Institute staff, and staff interviews when possible
  • Collaboratively develop organization-wide media policy
Stakeholder Outreach
  • Oversee outreach to key audiences as part of publication launches, events, and announcements
  • Build event and project-specific audience lists with contact information and other key details, and update lists to indicate levels of engagement throughout the course of a project or event
  • Draft and distribute outreach messaging via Outlook mail merge and other channels
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders and answer inquiries and/or requests for more information as needed
Event Marketing
  • Prepare talking points and other written materials for events
  • Represent PCLDUX in event-related meetings including before action reviews, after action reviews, and marketing meetings
  • Assist with planning and executing events led by PCLDUX, including conferences, panels, screenings, etc.
Other Expectations
  • Participate in weekly communications meetings, PCLDUX meetings, and Lincoln Institute staff meetings and trainings
  • Assist with email and social media marketing
  • Answer inquiries and requests from our web contact form and info email inbox
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with in-house staff and outside individuals and organizations
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of professional work experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
