Postdoctoral Fellow – Biomechanical Evaluation of Wearable Technology (Walsh Lab)

Project: Back exosuit biomechanical, physiological, and clinical evaluation.

The Harvard Biodesign Lab invites applications for an immediate opening on a research project focused on biomechanical, physiological, and clinical evaluations of a lightweight, pliable back exosuit that assists hip and back movement by applying appropriately timed joint torques. The candidate will collect and analyze data from human subjects in field, clinic and lab studies, support a yearlong field study, potentially travel to sites, organize and quality‑check survey data, and ensure compliance with IRB protocol procedures.

• Collect and analyze biomechanical data from human subjects using equipment such as Qualysis cameras, Bertec force plates, instrumented treadmill, Delsys Trigno EMG, and Cosmed K4b2 metabolic system.
• Assist with data collection and analysis for field, clinic, and lab studies.
• Support a year‑long field study, travel to clinical and industrial partners as needed.
• Organize and quality‑check survey data, ensuring compliance with IRB procedures.
• Publish scholarly papers, attend conferences, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

• Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Movement Science, Physiology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.

• Strong background in statistics.
• Experience with human subjects studies using wearable technology and healthy and patient populations.
• PT background and eligibility for Massachusetts licensure (plus).
• Attention to detail and professionalism.
• Participant recruitment and retention experience.
• CITI certification and Good Clinical Practice training.
• REDCap data collection and entry experience.
