Position: Technical Associate I, Hansen Lab

Posting Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Department of Biological Engineering – Hansen lab, will be 75% research and 25% lab general organizational duties. The research focus will be on understanding gene regulation in the context of 3D genome organization using a combination of cell culture, genome editing, genomics, imaging, and computational methods. This position is ideal for a recent graduate seeking additional training before entering graduate/medical school and/or for someone with prior experience as a Technical Associate or similar.

The Hansen lab is interested in the interplay between genome organization and regulation of gene expression in mammals. We use mammalian tissue culture, 3D genomics, live‑cell super‑resolution fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, and computational approaches toward this goal.

Responsibilities
  • Perform cloning of DNA constructs for genome editing.
  • Conduct biochemical and high‑resolution live‑cell fluorescence microscopy experiments.
  • Perform computational data analysis.
  • Assist with general lab maintenance.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Molecular or Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate).
  • Understanding of modern molecular and cell biology.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple roles, strong initiative, self‑motivation, and ability to fulfill tasks without reminding.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with lab members.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to train and onboard new lab members.
  • Willingness to learn and acquire new experimental and computational skills as necessary.
  • Integrity, ability to clearly document work, and maintain an accurate lab notebook.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required by experiments.

Intended to start in the Summer of 2026.
