Are you looking for a collaborative analytical chemistry role that allows you to meaningfully contribute GSK's pre-clinical oligonucleotide pipeline? If so, this role could be an ideal opportunity to explore.

As Principal Scientist, Oligonucleotide Discovery Analytical Chemistry, you and your team will play an important role in the analysis and quality control of GSK's preclinical oligonucleotide therapeutics pipeline. You will develop and execute advanced analytical methods for a diversity of synthetic oligonucleotide modalities to help accelerate GSK's pipeline and platform technology ambitions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deploy robust analytical methods to support in-house oligonucleotide synthesis, including novel chemistries and conjugates
  • Use advanced LC/MS-MS capabilities to fully characterize novel synthetic oligonucleotides and related species in low-and high-throughput settings
  • Help design and manage key data pipelines
  • Collaborate internally and externally, representing Oligonucleotide Discovery Analytical Chemistry on project teams
  • Support analytical investigations, including root cause analysis, in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Participate in hiring, mentoring and training of junior team members, ensuring knowledge transfer and capability development
Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • A BS degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience or an MS degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience in analytical chemistry or a related discipline (or equivalent)
  • Two or more years of experience using high-resolution LC/MS(-MS) methodology in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or academic setting
  • At least one year of experience utilizing modern mass spectrometry data analysis techniques, particularly as applied to biopolymers such as oligonucleotides, proteins, and/or glycans
  • At least one year of experience in high-resolution LC/MS(-MS) method development and method troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications:

If you have one or more of the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • A PhD in analytical chemistry or a related discipline with three or more years of experience
  • Professional experience in the field of oligonucleotide therapeutics
  • Experience with high-throughput LC/MS(-MS) data acquisition and analysis
  • Experience with the LC/MS(-MS) analysis of small molecules and/or biologics
  • Experience with non-LC/MS analysis and characterization methodology, such as NMR, X-ray crystallography, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, or circular dichroism
  • Exposure to other aspects of drug discovery & development, including in vitro biology, bioanalysis, DMPK, delivery, etc.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills
  • Familiarity working in cross-functional matrix project team

• If you are based in Cambridge, MA;
Waltham, MA;
Rockville, MD; or San Francisco, CA, the annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges $111,375 to $185,625. The US salary ranges take into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate's skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
