PositionCenter for Geographic Analysis (CGA) – Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS), Harvard University.
Position DescriptionAs a CGA Postdoctoral Fellow, you will help build and sustain Harvard’s cross-disciplinary geographic analytical capacity, support GIS teaching and training, and provide researchers, students, and instructors with cutting‑edge methods, data, and software.
Responsibilities- Develop and offer state‑of‑the‑discipline geographic data science training workshops, including desktop GIS, to Harvard community members (30 % of time).
- Contribute to CGA’s research support activities through consultation, project development, and collaboration on research outputs, including peer‑reviewed papers (30 % of time).
- Develop an independent research profile and pursue collaborations with internal and external researchers, including proposals for externally funded research (30 % of time).
- Participate in networking and community‑building activities to enhance CGA’s visibility in geography and spatial science (10 % of time).
Full‑time, benefits‑eligible. Salary $70,000–$80,000 per year. One‑year appointment with possibility of renewal. Expected start:
Fall 2026.
- Demonstrated experience with spatial analytic methods that address substantive spatial social science questions.
- Ph.D. in geography, GIScience, or a related social science.
- Experience developing and teaching spatial methods, especially desktop GIS, R, and Python.
- Interest or experience in spatial AI approaches.
- Comfort with research project development/management and willingness to contribute to others’ research across a variety of domains.
