Overview
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is the world’s leading biomedical research institute dedicated to using genomics to transform disease understanding and treatment. The Sabeti Lab at Harvard and the Broad Institute develops cutting‑edge experimental techniques to study pathogen evolution, diagnosis, and prevention of infectious disease. The lab is developing CRISPR‑based technologies, including the CARMEN and SHINE viral diagnostics platforms.
AboutThe Sabeti Lab
The Sabeti Lab focuses on developing and applying high‑throughput diagnostics and is seeking a highly motivated individual to work closely with researchers in the Diagnostics Team. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively, work well in a team, and have a strong desire to contribute to translational research. This position provides an opportunity to develop PCR and CRISPR‑based diagnostic assays and deploy them as front‑line surveillance tools in West African countries.
Key Responsibilities- Work independently and with team members to design and carry out experiments essential to the individual project and the group’s collective success.
- Consult the literature, supervisor, and other scientific staff as needed to troubleshoot experiments.
- Investigate, learn, and develop new methods and technologies that might be relevant to the project.
- Maintain detailed experimental records, documentation, and written protocols.
- Regularly communicate results and roadblocks in experimental lab work to the wider diagnostic team.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills.
- High level of initiative and motivation; ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to think creatively to solve problems.
- Interest or prior experience developing high‑throughput assays or translational technologies.
- Experience with nucleic acid amplification, digital PCR, viral diagnostics, or quantitative data analysis. Preferred: CRISPR applications.
- A Bachelor of Science degree and at least two years of relevant professional experience, or an advanced degree without prior experience.
- Experience in molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related field.
- Strong, proven communication and wet‑lab skills, teamwork, and a strong desire to learn new methods.
- Proven ability to engage collaborators and influence without direct supervisory authority, and proactively anticipate, identify, and mitigate potential issues before they arise.
- Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an emphasis on problem‑solving skills.
- Strong interest in work‑related travel to implement technology at partner sites.
Pay Range: $58,000.00/yr – $80,667.00/yr. Broad provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan; flexible spending and health savings accounts; at least 13 paid holidays; winter closure; paid time off; parental and family care leave; and an employee assistance program.
