Postdoctoral Research Positions in Condensed Matter Theory at Harvard University

We are looking to appoint one or more postdoctoral fellows beginning in Fall 2026 in the Quantum Condensed Matter Theory groups led by Professors Eslam Khalaf, Mikhail Lukin, Subir Sachdev, Ashvin Vishwanath, Norman Yao, Susanne Yelin and Bertrand Halperin (Emeritus) in the Department of Physics, and by Professor Efthimios Kaxiras (SEAS/Physics). The research focuses on quantum mechanical condensed matter theory, including strongly correlated electron systems, mesoscopic physics, topological phases, ultracold atomic gases, quantum optics, and quantum information.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct research in the areas listed above.
  • Collaborate with faculty members across the department.
  • Present findings at seminars and conferences.
  • Contribute to the application of the Simons Collaboration on Ultra-Quantum Matter and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship programs as applicable.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Completed Ph D in physics or a closely related field by the appointment start date.
  • Outstanding research record in theoretical condensed matter physics.
  • Ability to identify and pursue independent research problems while working well in an interactive and dynamic setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Application Requirements:

  • Letters of recommendation from three scientists familiar with the candidate’s work.
  • Selected preprints or reprints of articles written by the applicant.
  • Application materials reviewed by all involved faculty members.

Compensation and Funding:

  • Salary range: $67,600–$80,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
  • Potential funding from the Simons Collaboration on Ultra-Quantum Matter and/or the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (up to three years).
