Technical Associate II

REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field; a minimum of four years of relevant research experience; strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar scientific computing environments; experience with time series analysis, spectral methods, and signal processing techniques; ability to work with large, complex datasets and develop reproducible workflows; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail;

ability to communicate technical results clearly inwritten and verbal formats; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment; and deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.

Occasional travel may be required to support experimental campaigns or collaborations (e.g., AUG in Germany approximately 1-3 trips per year). Work may occasionally require extended hours, including evenings or weekends, during active experimental campaigns.

This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal.

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE performs advanced, independent computational research in support of plasma turbulence and transport studies within the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC). The role includes developing and refining data analysis methods, diagnostic techniques, and computational workflows, as well as interpreting complex experimental results and advising on experimental strategy. This position requires deep technical expertise, the ability to analyze and interpret complex and heterogeneous datasets, and responsibility for designing and improving analytical approaches used across research efforts.

The Technical Associate collaborates with internal and external partners and contributes to research outputs, including publications and technical reports.
