RESEARCH SCIENTIST
Biology – The Weissbourd lab. The position joins the lab studying the neurobiology and behavior of the jellyfish Clytia hemisphaerica, with the goal of uncovering principles of neural development and function in an outgroup to bilaterian animals. The role will lead and contribute to advanced projects that include molecular and cell biology, computational biology, and behavioral studies. It involves applying cutting‑edge techniques, developing novel research strategies, applying for grants, troubleshooting experiments, building transgene constructs, creating and maintaining transgenic jellyfish lines, generating large data sets, testing hypotheses, collaborating within the lab and with external cores, communicating results, mentoring students and staff, and writing grant applications with the PI.
- Postdoctoral training in a relevant scientific discipline such as neuroscience or genetics.
- Practical knowledge of molecular and cellular biology concepts.
- Wet‑lab skills including molecular cloning, PCR, and generating transgenic or mutant lines in model organisms using CRISPR, Tol2, etc.
- Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn new fields and techniques.
- Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong scientific writing skills, including manuscript and grant writing.
