Position Overview

Osmoses Inc. is looking for a Senior Chemist with a strong background in polymer chemistry, organic synthesis, and process scale up. As a member of our Product team, you will lead our scale‑up efforts and contribute to the development of breakthrough chemistry published in Science Magazine from concept to commercial skidded product. The role will involve optimization and scale up of chemical reactions, cost optimization of our polymer production process, and collaboration with contract manufacturing organizations to ensure on‑time delivery of qualified polymer materials needed for internal membrane development and manufacturing.

You will collaborate with the technology, engineering, and business teams to launch products from Osmoses, and you will communicate your technical ideas in a clear manner.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Develop and optimize the synthesis of polymer materials.
  • Collaborate with the membrane team to develop polymer materials for membrane gas separations.
  • Collaborate with the membrane team to develop the criteria to qualify polymer materials for membrane development and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with the membrane team to troubleshoot any issues in polymer development and manufacturing that may be associated with polymer quality.
  • Collaborate with CMOs to ensure consistent supply of qualified polymer materials needed for internal membrane development and manufacturing.
  • Develop cost estimates for polymer candidates using internal models and by working with CMOs.
  • Provide regular updates internally on the status of polymer scale‑up, including estimated costs and projected timelines, through written communication and presentations.
  • Mentor research associates on the chemistry team.
What We’re Looking For
  • PhD in synthetic chemistry, polymer science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of industrial experience working as a synthetic chemist in addition to the above.
  • High level proficiency in synthetic organic chemistry techniques such as chromatography, air‑free synthesis, and reaction analysis.
  • Experience in coordinating internal research efforts with external contract work.
  • Proficiency with Chemdraw, Microsoft Office software, Google suites, and other relevant software.
What We Can Offer You
  • Opportunity to contribute to addressing one of the biggest industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency challenges of this century.
  • Work in the heart of the most innovative square mile in the world and the most exciting hub for clean tech.
  • High leadership and growth potential joining our company at a critical stage with strong momentum backed by leading venture capital firms.
  • Access to competitive salary and equity packages.
Qualities we’re looking for
  • Collaborative team player – you thrive in a team environment, actively seek diverse perspectives, and leverage collective strengths to find the best solutions.
  • Accountable & transparent – you’re highly organized, communicate progress openly, and proactively adjust plans when challenges arise—always with a collaborative mindset.
  • Clear & impactful communicator – you excel at both written and verbal communication, presenting research‑backed, data‑informed ideas to internal teams and external partners with clarity and confidence.
  • Agile & adaptable – comfortable in a fast‑paced startup environment, you’re quick to learn, willing to pivot, and ready to build expertise in new domains to support business needs.
  • Safety‑first mindset – you prioritize the safety and well‑being of yourself and your team in every aspect of your work.
  • Technically rigorous & analytical – you bring strong problem‑solving skills, sound reasoning, and a commitment to high technical standards.
  • Detail‑oriented & self‑directed – you manage multiple priorities with accuracy and focus, working independently and collaboratively to drive results. You’re self‑motivated and team‑minded.
  • Resilient & growth‑oriented – you approach challenges with optimism and determination, maintaining a solution‑focused mindset and a hunger to grow, adapt, and succeed.
