Job Title
The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, a world leader in genetic research, is looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Spatial Technology Platform (STP).
The STP utilizes cutting-edge spatial profiling methods to generate highly multiplexed and multi-modal data sets at single-cell resolution as a high-throughput scaled service at the Broad Institute. In addition, our platform develops and pilots new technologies and capabilities that have potential for scaled service implementation, including cross-modality assays and technologies at precommercial stages. Our focus lies in highly multiplexed spatial transcriptomics alongside in situ proteomics and optical barcoding technologies for demultiplexing CRISPR perturbations.
Our research and development efforts are increasingly directed toward profiling therapeutic candidates and their effects on cell-cell interactions and rescue of mechanisms and phenotypes underlying genetic disorders, immunological diseases, and cancer.
We are a team of academic researchers and professional scientists with diverse expertise in experimental biology, engineering, and computer science, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the imaging group within our team and support workflows and quality control methods as we transition spatial transcriptomics assays to scaled service operations, pilot and develop combined multimodal assays, and develop techniques to troubleshoot spatial assays at intermediate points.
We value strong teamwork, clear communication, and autonomy. While the role requires independent initiative and will be highly dynamic, you'll benefit from close mentorship and guidance from our senior researchers.
The Broad Institute fosters a vibrant and intellectually stimulating research environment with deep connections to leading academic institutions throughout the Boston area. This unique ecosystem provides you with exceptional opportunities to collaborate with renowned researchers, engage in pioneering scientific inquiry, and contribute to knowledge with the potential for global impact.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and evaluate methods to assess quality of input material for spatial transcriptomics assays - RNA extraction and DV200 profiling, H&E imaging, and RNAscope profiling.
- Pilot methods to adapt spatial transcriptomics workflows for high-throughput profiling of cultured cells.
- Implement imaging-based spatial profiling methods such as 10X Xenium in combination with other assays such as RNAscope and multiplexed immunofluorescence.
- Support the platform's self-service imaging instrumentation through user training of widefield, confocal, and light sheet microscopy.
- Attention to detail when troubleshooting and resolving issues in assays; ability to propose next steps or directions even when the path to an experimental goal is not clear.
- Support of histology needs.
- Flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.
- Document, compile, and analyze experimental data.
- Attend and present at team meetings to share results and ensure that projects support team goals.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of related work experience, or Master's degree.
- Experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field.
- Experience with fluorescence microscopy and imaging.
- Strong wet lab skills and experience with tissue processing (histology) are required.
- Experience in imaging or spatial genomics is highly desirable.
- Great teamwork skills, including the ability to engage with external collaborators.
- Highly independent and resourceful.
- Computational analysis is a plus.
The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
