Scientist Position

Moderna is seeking a Scientist to join the Oncology Bioinformatics team within the Cancer Vaccine and Bioinformatics Research organization. This is an exciting opportunity to apply computational biology at the intersection of single-cell genomics, T cell biology, and cancer immunotherapy to help advance Moderna's oncology pipeline.

In this role, you will contribute to high-impact scientific questions that inform the discovery and development of mRNA-based cancer vaccines and immunotherapies. You will work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment with immunologists, oncologists, translational scientists, and computational biologists to generate actionable biological insights from complex genomic datasets.

What You'll Do
  • Analyze and interpret single-cell, bulk genomics, and functional genomics datasets to characterize immune responses and tumor biology.
  • Develop and apply computational approaches to investigate T cell biology and mechanisms of anti-tumor immunity.
  • Integrate internal and public datasets to support target discovery, biomarker identification, and translational research.
  • Develop and maintain reproducible bioinformatics workflows using modern computational tools and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support study design, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Communicate findings through presentations, reports, and scientific discussions to inform research decisions.
Here's What You'll Need (Basic Qualifications)
  • Ph.D., with 0+ years of experience or M.S. with 4+ years of experience, in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing data, including single-cell RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, DNA-seq and TCR-seq.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R for computational data analysis.
  • Experience working in cloud environments (e.g., AWS).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply computational approaches to biological or early-stage translational research.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills in a team-oriented environment.
Here's What You'll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Exposure to immuno-oncology, cancer vaccines, tumor immunology, or computational immunology.
  • Familiarity with neoantigen prediction approaches, including HLA typing and peptide-MHC binding tools (e.g., NetMHCpan).
  • Experience with immunogenomics resources (e.g., IEDB, TCGA).
