Research Scientist II (Internal)

Cambridge, MA (Onsite)

The Biologics Research Center (BRC) discovers and develops biologic therapeutics to treat unmet medical needs across Novartis’s disease areas, including oncology, autoimmune disease, respiratory disease, and cardiovascular disease. The BRC Biologics group collaborates with scientists across the company to characterize and identify lead molecules as biotherapeutic drug candidates using technologies such as recombinant protein evaluation, cell binding, epitope binning, and functional activity assays.

Role Overview

As a member of the Bioanalytics team, the successful candidate will: develop and analyze Biacore (SPR) methods; interpret SPR data and generate hypotheses; design troubleshooting and subsequent experiments; conduct mammalian cell culture and cellular binding studies (e.g., KinexA, Ligand Tracer); perform plate-based binding and functional assays (ELISA, MSD, Alpha Screen); and present data in slide decks to research teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret data from binding and functional assays.
  • Operate within an interdisciplinary setting, collaborating with senior and junior team members.
  • Train junior associates as needed.
  • Present research at lab meetings and project team sessions.
  • Develop SPR methods and generate binding reports for research teams.
  • Maintain cell cultures and perform cellular binding experiments.
  • Perform plate‑based binding and functional assays.
Essential Requirements
  • MS within the last two years in biology, chemistry, pharmacology, or an appropriate scientific discipline, OR BS with 2+ years of relevant experience in drug discovery or related laboratory research.
  • Familiarity with cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Distinguished team spirit and scientific drive.
  • High flexibility combined with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or cellular binding technologies.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $81,200 to $150,800 per year, determined by experience and skills. Salary may change based on company and market factors. Compensation includes a performance‑based cash incentive and eligibility for equity awards (dependent on role level).
