Position: Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurobiology (Ginty Lab)

Overview

Harvard University — Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurobiology (Ginty Lab)

The Ginty Laboratory in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School uses mouse genetics, molecular biology, histology, behavioral approaches and electrophysiology to understand neurobiological mechanisms of touch and pain. The position focuses on how the somatosensory system detects, processes, and relays information from the body's surfaces to the central nervous system. The goal is to leverage molecular data and tools to describe the diversity of somatosensory neuron repertoires across mice and other mammals, and to generate tools for genetic access to these cell-types for anatomical, physiological, and behavioral characterization.

The role involves designing and executing experiments, supervising undergraduate researchers, and collaborating with the PI and lab members in a fast-paced, discovery-driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead independent research projects focused on the somatosensory system.
  • Conduct experiments in mice and rat models, including electrophysiology, live imaging, and behavioral studies.
  • Apply molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, and genotyping.
  • Perform molecular profiling in a cell-type-specific manner.
  • Supervise undergraduate trainees and contribute to an open, collaborative lab culture.
  • Document and present findings in internal meetings and scientific publications.
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in neurobiology or a related field.
  • Experience with bioinformatic analyses, viral engineering, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and behavioral assays.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, and genotyping.
  • Strong ability to manage and lead scientific projects autonomously.
Additional Qualifications

Visa sponsorship considerations:
Harvard may determine appropriate visa status and whether a sponsorship application will be submitted, including any applicable fees.

Special Instructions
  • Required documents: CV; research summary of PhD work; cover letter describing interest in the lab and initial ideas for new research directions; a note with names and contact information for two references.
  • Submit through the ARIeS portal. Applications considered May 16, 2026. Selected candidates will be invited for in-person interviews with a research presentation on past work.
Dates and Salary
  • Final date to receive applications:
    July 20, 2026.
  • Start date:

On or around October 1, 2026 (with some flexibility).
  • Duration:
One-year term from date of hire, with possible extension contingent on performance, needs, and funding.
  • Salary and benefits:
Salaried position; salary guidelines for postdoctoral fellows are available at the HMS postdoc guidelines site.
