Postdoctoral Associate
Be responsible for executing theoretical and computational research focused on multiphase flows involving complex fluids that interact with gases, other fluids, or solids. The role also includes examining how these systems respond to perturbations in material properties and environmental conditions. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research within the group's broader research program, mentor graduate students, and collaborate with researchers in related fields;
perform theoretical and computational research; develop, implement, and maintain scientific software; participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and of presentations at scientific conferences; participate in the organization of group and department wide collaborative activities including meetings, seminars, and workshops; and assist in student mentorship and share expertise and providing training and guidance to group members and visitors as needed.
REQUIRED:
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related disciplines; demonstrated ability in mathematical modeling, scientific computation, scientific software and algorithm development, and data analysis; demonstrated ability to conduct original, high-quality research in computational fluid dynamics and/or computational mechanics; experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, interfacial flows, fluid-structure interactions, and constitutive modeling of complex fluids or active matter;
ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment, and to collaborate with experimentalists; strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills.
This is a one-year appointment that can be renewed, contingent on performance.
Associates will be based, and have a workspace, at the group's office in the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT.
