Position: Produce Associate Team Leader (Assistant Department Manager)

Overview

Produce Associate Team Leader (Assistant Department Manager) at Whole Foods Market. Base pay: $20.05/hr - $35.00/hr job is to assist the Team Leader with daily operations, profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor, regulatory compliance, and special projects. Leads and develops Team Members and ensures a positive company image through courteous service.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain creative store layout and product merchandising.
  • Work with Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets.
  • Assist Team Leader in analysis of sales, reports, and labor.
  • Demonstrate advanced product knowledge and stay aware of new products.
  • Maintain good vendor relationships; develop new vendor relations; ensure all paperwork is properly submitted.
  • Work with Team Leader to resolve team concerns or issues.
  • Act as point person and departmental head in absence of Team Leader.
  • Set and achieve highest standards of retail execution.
  • Foster a positive environment of teamwork, mutual respect, and morale.
  • Monitor customer flows and needs; direct Team Members to meet and delight customers.
  • Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel Team Members to sustain high-performance team and minimize turnover.
  • Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations.
  • Consistently communicate and model WFM vision and goals.

Experience
  • 18+ months retail Team Member experience and 6+ months of supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Standing/walking 6‑8 hours during an 8‑hour workday.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90°F.
  • Work in wet and cold environments.
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Use of tools and equipment including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
