Visiting Student Position In The Traverso Lab

Our lab aims to utilize the state-of-the-art flexible electronics technologies and other engineering approaches to realize gastric resident device form factors in the gastrointestinal tract. The work is part of larger collaborations with external groups from MIT.

We are seeking a visiting student, full-time, in the Traverso Lab at Brigham and Women's Hospital with a background in machine vision and learning (or computational behavior analytics). Students with experience or interest in electrical engineering, circuit design, and controller development will be given priority. The student will contribute towards developing a multicomponent system for quantifying swine activities and behavior in situ.

Primary responsibilities will include the design of deep learning models for capturing egocentric and allocentric behaviors using multiple sensor streams, device fabrication and assembly (of sensor streams), and assisting with in vivo testing in small and large animals.

The candidate should be enrolled in a B.S./M.A. program or equivalent in computer science or electrical and computer engineering. An ideal candidate will have research experience in the field, as well as hands-on experience with device fabrication, and is interested in learning from other disciplines as needed. Candidates with relevant experience in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Computational behavior analytics
  • Machine vision and learning
  • Wireless power and communications circuit development
  • Flexible and wearable electronics
  • Programming skills: python, C/C, MATLAB

Candidate must have self-motivation and willingness to learn new tools and techniques; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; comfort summarizing and reporting results to interdisciplinary researchers; commitment to exceeding standards and producing accurate, high-quality work; meticulous attention to detail; practiced documentation skills; and ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

Students are expected to work closely with a postdoctoral fellow.
