Executive Medical Director, Oncology Clinical Sciences – Cambridge, MA
Lead strategic and operational aspects of oncology clinical development across global regions, ensuring alignment with the Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU) strategy and regulatory requirements. Oversee the Integrated Disease Area Strategy (IDAS) and Integrated Global Development Plan (IGDP), manage clinical development teams, and provide critical evaluation of study protocols, synopses, and clinical results.
Responsibilities• Accountable to the Oncology Clinical Science Head for strategic clinical input on assigned studies.
• Lead the Global Development Team (US, EU, Japan/China) and oversee study physicians and clinical scientists.
• Direct development strategy, deliverables, and clinical protocols, ensuring proactive risk mitigation and contingency planning.
• Make high‑impact global decisions, including go/no‑go determinations and modifications to development plans.
• Provide strategic input into global development strategies, alliance and licensing opportunities, and product positioning.
• Serve as primary liaison with Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, Project Management, and regulatory agencies.
• Lead clinical science activities related to FDA and other regulatory interactions, safety assessments, and KOL engagement.
• Manage, mentor, and develop clinical science staff; conduct performance reviews and goal setting.
• Coordinate with the research division and internal teams to support regional and global objectives.
MD or combined MD/PhD, or an internationally recognized equivalent with a minimum of 10 years pharmaceutical research experience, including at least 7 years of phases I‑IV clinical development experience. Extensive training in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology (preferably hematologic malignancies) is highly preferred. Demonstrated experience leading multi‑regional, matrix‑structured clinical development teams and managing NDA/MAA submissions is strongly preferred. Excellent communication, strategic, interpersonal, and negotiation skills;
ability to predict issues, drive decisions, and influence across multinational cultures.
Willingness to travel for meetings and client sites, including overnight trips; approximately 10% international travel may be required.
