Summary
The seasonal period for these positions typically runs from April/May through October/November, but timing can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty is April/May 2026.
Duties- Performs routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
- Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work.
- Performs minor carpentry repairs using simple measurements and hand tools on tasks such as replacing broken planks on picnic tables, broken windows, and minor adjustments or replacements of hinges, latches and catches.
- Performs minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions.
- Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in‑kind fittings and fixtures that do not require custom fitting or solder joints, replacing faucet washers, and unplugs drains using a plunger.
- Receives, unloads and processes incoming shipments according to established procedures.
- Reports discrepancies and damage to responsible officials.
- Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re‑grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearance.
- Collects trash.
- Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work.
- Cleans and services restrooms and other visitor facilities.
- Makes minor repairs as needed and refers problems to higher graded workers.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service registration requirement for males.
- Eligible for Direct Deposit Electrons Funds Transfer Program.
- Must operate a motor vehicle as part of official duties; a valid driver’s license is required.
- Must wear a uniform in compliance with NPS uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
- May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
- Government housing may be available at some locations.
- Must be at least 18 years old, or 16 years old under specific educational or employment circumstances.
- Ability to perform the work of the position with minimal supervision (screen out).
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
- Proficiency in technical practices and use of measuring instruments.
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
- Proficiency in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of materials relevant to maintenance tasks.
