Position: FACILITIES HVAC TECHNICIAN - In House (FULL TIME)

Job Summary

Position: Facilities HVAC Technician (Full‑time, In‑house)

Location: AstraZeneca – 290 Binney St., Cambridge, MA 02142

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Pay Range: $42.00 to $51.00 per hour

Requirement: 5–8 years HVAC experience and a valid HVAC license required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize facility and lab HVAC and environmental control systems—including air handlers, chillers, exhaust and ventilation systems, humidification/dehumidification equipment—to ensure safe, compliant, and stable temperature, humidity, and air‑quality conditions that support uninterrupted R&D lab and office operations.
  • Provide rapid response to system alarms or conditions that could impact research activities or facility comfort.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with onsite mechanical, plumbing, controls, and building automation teams to coordinate HVAC system repairs, calibrations, and upgrades that directly influence laboratory equipment performance, ventilation integrity, pressure relationships, and overall facility reliability.
  • Independently manage a personal queue of corrective and preventative HVAC work orders while overseeing vendor‑supported maintenance and small‑scale mechanical projects to ensure timely resolution, accurate documentation, and adherence to environmental, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Update work statuses and document tasks completed in the CMMS using a mobile device.
  • Help determine manpower, material needs, and deadlines for jobs and projects.
  • Cleans, lubricates, services, repairs, and diagnoses malfunction of HVAC, electrical and mechanical building systems, sterilizers, food service equipment, sprinkler and standpipe systems, transport systems, electronic signaling systems, fire alarm systems, and similar plant and specialty equipment items.
  • Assist in making decisions on all repairs and report major problems to the Maintenance Supervisor, Foreman, and Manager as appropriate.
  • Constructs, finishes, installs, maintains, and repairs electrical and mechanical systems or the facilities of any related systems, using power & hand tools and other necessary equipment.
  • Review outside vendor projects and make punch lists.
  • Analyze and correct complex building system problems and electro‑mechanical problems related to utilities.
  • Support project management activity as needed.
  • Respond to emergency problems in the facility and make emergency repairs as needed.
  • Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete P.M. work orders, tests, and inspections.
  • Make recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems.
  • Maintain shops and mechanical areas in a clean and safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 5 years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician in an institutional setting in an engineering or maintenance discipline.
  • One of the following:
    Journeyman Electrical License, Registered ACR Technician with EPA certification in Refrigerant, or Journeyman Plumber License.
  • Experience working with blueprints and schematics.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • General understanding of electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • Rudimentary ability to utilize hand‑operated construction equipment.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop and perform strenuous labor for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions

Some exposure to elevated heat, noise, dust, dirt, and/or areas requiring infection control. Must be able to work all hours, including weekends and nights, as necessary, to maintain facility at the appropriate and safe level.
