Specific Duties
  • Perform various manual labor tasks, sometimes requiring specialized skills, to assist skilled tradesmen and craftsmen such as carpenters, plumbers, and masons.
  • Assist with installation of drainage, sewer, and water pipelines, including positioning, joining, and sealing pipe sections and culverts, and erecting and removing shoring for trenches and excavations.
  • Dig trenches and other excavations, refill and grade fills with dirt, gravel, and other materials using picks and shovels.
  • Set and repair curbing; patch damaged pavement, using appropriate paving materials such as mortar and concrete.
  • Install, repair, and maintain signs (regulatory, historic, informational) by digging holes and installing supports with hand or power tools.
  • Plant, transplant, prune, trim, and fertilize trees, flowers, and shrubs; seed lawns and gardens; spray for insects and plant diseases; cut grass, rake leaves, and water plants as needed for public grounds maintenance.
  • Load and unload trucks, use dollies, unpack and store supplies in stockrooms, and take periodic inventories of supplies and equipment.
  • Operate hand‑held power tools, tapping machines, and rodding machines.
  • Operate motor vehicles, including light vehicles and trucks, in connection with assigned unit activities.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Employment Information

Salaries are based on full‑time/40 hours worked per week. Work schedules and days off are at the discretion of the supervisor. This position may require working weekends and/or holidays.

Qualifications
  • Minimum six months of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in manual labor related to general construction or maintenance work.
  • First consideration will be given to those who apply within the first 14 days.
