Overview
Harvard University Central Administration (CADM) offers building & landscape maintenance, and custodial services to Harvard faculties and departments on a fee-for-service basis. CADM operates as an in-house maintenance service and aims to meet customer-determined standards while partnering with schools and departments.
Job DescriptionJob Summary: Facilities Maintenance Operations (FMO) provides building life-safety maintenance to Harvard facilities and operates as an in-house alternative to contractor services. The role follows applicable safety and compliance standards and supports FMO and campus operations.
Job Responsibilities- Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair building life-safety equipment and systems, including fire alarm systems, centralized emergency lighting, and remote central station monitoring equipment.
- Perform installation, maintenance, inspection and testing in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Life Safety Code (Massachusetts State Building Code), and other applicable authorities.
- Interpret and update mechanical plans, drawings and prints as necessary.
- Assist in inspection and testing of fire safety systems, including fire alarms, emergency generators, extinguishers and suppression systems, fire escapes, and hydrants.
- Perform other core skills of the trade as required.
- Observe and comply with standard safety codes and practices; work to university and trade standards.
- Assist and advise customers on progress/status of work and provide responsive customer support in all phases of FSS and building maintenance operations.
- Maintain a clean, neat uniform and professional image; wear safety equipment as required.
- May work independently or as part of a multi-trade team under supervision of the FSS Supervisor or Working Foreperson.
- May be assigned to perform any or all aspects of the FMO fire electrician position.
- Emergency Status Designation:
Critical Operations Personnel
- Stoop, bend, and work in awkward positions for extended periods; ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with heavier loads (over 200 lbs) with assistance or equipment.
- Walk between buildings or sites carrying tools and equipment; work in confined spaces and extreme temperatures; climb stairs and use ladders or lifts as needed.
- Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician license (minimum five years).
- Valid State driver’s license with satisfactory driving history.
- Minimum five years of experience installing and maintaining high and low voltage systems; experience with fire alarm systems, centralized battery-powered lighting, emergency generators, and related devices.
- Experience with diagnostic testing equipment and ability to perform required mathematical calculations for sizing components.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed plans, drawings, specifications and manuals.
- Effective communication with peers and customers; proficiency with desktop and smartphone platforms; familiarity with equipment diagnostics and related technologies is desired.
- Must provide a complete set of hand tools; willingness to work in laboratory environments and around hazardous materials; willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician license

$50.82/hour (including shift differential if applicable)
